Located in the Dewberry Hotel in the heart of Charleston, the 106-seat restaurant Henrietta’s is the public centerpiece of a midcentury federal office building’s new life as a hospitality landmark. In essence, Henrietta’s design encapsulates Workstead’s vision for the entire hotel renovation—in which the materials, textures, and colors of Charleston are drawn in monolithic strokes. Tailored wall paneling is a key feature of our effort to define this Southern modernism. Adapted from classic French brasseries, the paneling grounds the space and allows the rest of the dining room to soar upward to gently turning fans surmounted by a caned ceiling. This millwork extends to the bar and guest booths, effecting the illusion that you have stepped into an institution that has operated continuously since 1964.
