Prospect Park South House

Prospect Park South House sits proudly on a 13,000-square-foot lot in Brooklyn’s lush Ditmas Park neighborhood. Workstead’s full renovation of the 1905 residence threaded a distinctly modern spirit through the resplendent original building, whose architectural details as well as stained-glass windows, plasterwork, and mantels represent a mélange of revival styles. The project further embraced the urban oasis–like character of Ditmas Park, by alternating expansive spaces and cozy refuges in the meandering plan. Highly contemporary vignettes and whimsical design decisions—such as placement of a ping-pong table in the formal dining area—remind today’s users of the fantasy and humor with which historical architects approached their own assignments.
