Workstead reimagined an open-plan workplace to improve the quality of employees’ wellbeing. By bringing the indoor/outdoor environment closer to the people and using a residential vocabulary of architectural details and refined thresholds, our concept creates a more serene working environment. Atriums are used as organizing tools to divide the space into three gathering zones, bathing each in natural light from above. The entire space transitions from focused to more active work, moving from desk zones that allow for comfortable auditory levels to the shared kitchen and outdoor garden. Layers of fixed screening and movable partitions create flexible separations between focused working and collaborative areas. Within each of the three zones, there are spaces for collaboration and individual work, with opportunities for casual meetings to take place throughout.
