Rivertown Lodge

Since its construction in the 1930s, the double-porch motel located at the top of Warren Street in Hudson, New York, has been used as an inn, movie theater, and even a restaurant. To relaunch the property as Rivertown Lodge, new owners tapped Workstead to reinvent the 27-room property as a showcase of the Hudson Valley’s aesthetic—a language of utilitarian forms made alive by rich materials and caring fabrication, which has persisted for generations. Workstead also restored the original facade, installing custom muntined windows in the white brick building envelope, and we added screens and ceiling fans to all porches to activate the exterior public spaces. While much of Hudson has experienced a slow renaissance in the last few decades, the Rivertown project has spawned a resurgence at its end of the city’s main thoroughfare.
